Common Questions
Here’s everything you might be wondering before we get started, from design fees and budgets to timelines and how we work with trades. Every project is a little different, but our goal is always the same — to make your design experience clear, creative, and enjoyable from day one.
How do your design fees work?
Our design services are offered at a fixed rate, so you’ll always know what to expect.
Projects are priced by the square footage and scope of work rather than hourly billing. After our initial consultation, we’ll provide a clear proposal outlining the total design fee and a retainer for purchasing and sourcing furnishings.
This structure keeps the process transparent and predictable, no surprises, just a clear plan and beautiful results.
How do I develop my budget?
Creating a design budget can feel overwhelming, but we’ll help you every step of the way. During your consultation, we’ll talk through your goals, priorities, and the level of investment that makes sense for your home.
Because we work across a wide range of furnishings and finishes, we can tailor the plan to fit your comfort level, while still creating a cohesive, beautiful space. Your proposal will include an estimated range for furnishings and materials, so you’ll always know where your investment is going.
What’s included in the initial consultation?
Our 90-minute consultation is a collaborative walk-through of your home to talk about what’s working, what’s not, and what’s possible. We’ll discuss your goals, style, and priorities, and offer ideas, advice, and next steps.
We charge for this time because we get right to work. You’ll receive professional guidance, actionable steps, and clear notes to help you move forward with confidence, whether you continue with Kit Easton Designs or take the plan and run with it.
How long does a project usually take?
Every project has its own rhythm. A color consultation might be wrapped up during our consultation, while full-service design or renovation projects can take several months. We’ll share a realistic timeline during your proposal phase and keep you updated every step of the way.
Once you’ve signed on, the work begins and doesn’t slow down until install. You can expect weekly updates during the planning phase and confidence that deadlines will be met.
Do you work with trades?
We collaborate closely with our team of trusted local trades to bring your design to life. Kit Easton Designs does not replace or supply a general contractor for large construction projects. We’re happy to discuss working alongside your contractor, as long as both parties are in agreement. Clear communication and teamwork are key to a smooth and beautiful result.
Can you help with smaller projects, like paint colors or a single room?
Absolutely. Not every project has to be a full-home transformation. We love helping with focused updates like color selection, finish choices, or furnishing a single space. Sometimes a few thoughtful changes can make all the difference.
What happens after our consultation if I want to move forward?
After your consultation, we’ll review our contract and step-by-step process. Once you feel 100% confident, we’ll sign the agreement and schedule a site visit for our design team (and any needed trades) to measure, photograph, and confirm scope. Then we get to work.
You’ll receive a detailed proposal and agreement before any work begins.
Do you purchase furniture and materials for clients?
Yes. Kit Easton Designs partners with a variety of trusted trade vendors. We generously share our discounts with clients, so you’re paying below retail whenever possible. We handle all the details, from ordering and inspections to returns, delivery, and unboxing, so you can enjoy a seamless experience from design to install.
One of Kit Easton Designs’ signature strengths is sourcing a thoughtful mix of pieces. You can feel confident your space will look beautiful and cohesive, all while staying on budget.
What areas do you serve?
